In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Affected by the violence portrayed in the recent news a Minnesota deputy’s wife decided to take her appreciation to the next level. Meet Liz Gerads, her husband is a Wright County sheriff and she understands how much work goes into the day to day act of wearing a badge. Liz sent in a letter to raise awareness to KDWB explaining, “It’s hard to watch my husband leave wearing a kevlar vest with a gun on his belt. It’s time he and his colleagues know just how loved and appreciated he is.” She set a personal goal to raise 200 thank you cards for the men and women who are trained to serve and protect others.

Surprised by the answer to her call for action, Liz was greeted with over 8,000 thank you cards! She is traveling from one department to the next delivering stacks of gratitude to law enforcement.
Sheriff Joe Hagerty Is
Honored By The Letters
We joined Liz at the Wright County Sheriff’s office, yesterday. Liz was excited to present them with a letter she received from Twin’s President Dave St. Peter, along with a note from Congressman Tom Emmer. Sheriff Hagerty was overjoyed to have so many people thanking officers. He said there are more moments as a Sheriff helping people in need than there are chasing bad guys. There is a lot of good that is involved with being a Sheriff and it’s wonderful to receive cards filled with kindness. The thank you cards come at a time when being in the law enforcement isn’t easy and a little thank you goes a long way.
